Job Description
This role is offered on a hybrid contract giving you the opportunity to also work from home three days a week.
Comic Relief reserves the right to close the role early if a large number of applications are received.
Purpose of job:
As our Data Governance Manager, you will work closely with a range of stakeholders across Comic Relief to design and embed our data governance framework and provide assurance on its effectiveness.
This opportunity comes at an exciting time, as Comic Relief is looking to improve our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and ways of working with data across the organisation.
This is a new role within Comic Relief, and you will play an important part in delivering a data governance framework that ensures we fully realise the benefits of the improved CRM. You will be instrumental in promoting best practice in data governance to set Comic Relief up for success.
Key responsibilities:
Data Governance Framework
Design, develop and embed Da comprehensive Data Governance Framework, building on the existing policies and procedures at Comic Relief, and ensure this reflects organisational strategy and best practice.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to (i) design and implement data quality standards, processes and procedures; and (ii) ensure data security.
Develop and implement a data management lifecycle, to ensure appropriate data retention processes are in place and that data validation and cleansing processes are implemented.
Compliance with data protection laws and regulations
Working alongside colleagues in the Legal & Assurance team, ensure that the Data Governance Framework delivers compliance with data protection laws and regulations.
Advise internal stakeholders of the requirements for Data Privacy Impact Assessments.
Working with Comic Relief’s Data Protection Officer, oversee management of data incidents and data subject access and deletion requests.
Promote a culture of data governance within Comic Relief through employee training.
Monitoring and assurance
Continually identify and assess data governance risks in line with Comic Relief’s risk management approach, and ensure that these are mitigated appropriately within the Data Governance Framework.
Implement a risk-based assurance programme on the Data Governance Framework, including data quality and security standards and the data management lifecycle.
Provide assurance to Comic Relief’s Information Governance Steering Group and other senior stakeholders on the effectiveness of the Data Governance Framework.
Person specification
Essential criteria
Previous experience in managing data governance and implementation of a data governance framework, ideally in the UK charity or not-for-profit sector.
Strong knowledge of UK and EU data protection and information security principles and best practice.
Previous experience of delivering effective risk-based monitoring of compliance frameworks and providing assurance to senior management.
Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to understand complex technical concepts and translate these to non-specialists simply and effectively, to create practical procedures, guidance and training.
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrable stakeholder engagement experience. Ability to build relationships at all levels and provide constructive challenge to current ways of working.
Previous experience of balancing multiple workstreams, with the ability to maintain momentum on projects and prioritising tasks based on organisational criticality, risk and available resources.
Ability to take ownership of issues, take decisions and escalate where appropriate.
Desirable criteria
Experience of CRM or other system implementation.
Previous experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects and achieve objectives within set timescales.
Relevant professional qualification in data governance or data management.
