Job Description

Introduction to the role
The Farshore Design team at HarperCollins have an exciting opportunity for a creative individual with a passion for design to join our Fiction department.
Working closely with the Art Director, the candidate will help support the design team, and be a champion of the Farshore Fiction and Electric Monkey list.
Key tasks and accountabilities
Support the Art Director & design team with admin tasks (e.g., invoicing/contracts/file management, reprints)
To assist in the design and development of Fiction titles (for children aged 6-12) and Young Adult titles (12-16+) in line with the publishing strategy
To learn about and maintain relevant consumer, trend and market awareness in order to help develop new concepts for covers and interior artwork
Help to find new and relevant illustrators and talent to bring to the list, being mindful of our strategy and diversity
Identify opportunities for developing the back list and trend-led concepts (IP)
Helping the team to deliver front list books and reprints to production on time
To positively represent and promote Farshore & Electric Monkey (i.e. agent, authors and illustrators, social media)
During your first six months you will
Identify new illustration talent to bring to the Fiction and Electric Monkey list
Develop strong relationships with the Fiction and wider team
Contribute ideas to a new Fiction book by being outward-facing, flexible and market aware & make a tangible contribution to the final book
Support the importance of diversity and inclusion
Offer key support to the Art Director and wider team
Proficiently deliver backlist reprint titles to Production on time
Learn the technical set-up of InDesign files for print
Actively network and share your knowledge with the wider team
Experience and skills required
Creative flair and passion for design. Ideally with a particular interest in children’s & young adult fiction books – cover design and page design.
Good team player who is focussed on supporting the design team & championing our fiction and young adult books
Self-motivated and a strong drive to learn new skills and develop
Superb organisational skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills, for both internal and external meetings
Vision and ambition to make the Fiction list a commercial success
Ideally with relevant consumer, trend and market awareness
Basic knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
