Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our multi award-winning HarperNonFiction marcomms team as either a Marketing Manager or Senior Marketing Manager, depending on experience.

HarperNonFiction is one the UK’s leading entertainment and lifestyle publishers, home to some of the biggest names and bestselling brands in nonfiction, with authors including Cher, Peter Kay, Jay Shetty, Debbie Harry, Rob Beckett, Marcus Wareing, Adam Buxton and Vogue Williams. Complimented by our quality narrative imprint Mudlark & Smart Thinking and our lifestyle imprint Thorsons, we have an eclectic, genre-defining list across memoir, music, sport, self-help, personal development, cookery, health & fitness and gift.

The successful candidate will be creative, confident and digitally savvy, bringing market knowledge and prior marketing experience to deliver outstanding marketing campaigns. They will design and implement integrated and strategic campaigns across our three publishing verticals (Entertainment, Lifestyle & Mudlark) and grow our lists and brands through entrepreneurial and creative thinking. The ideal candidate will be creative, innovative and have extensive experience in marketing, especially digital.

Key tasks and accountabilities

  • Develop innovative, creative and market-leading campaigns that will create cut-through and deliver sales

  • Ensure that delivery of all creative, media, and digital plans are on brief and in budget.

  • Deliver on all elements of marketing campaigns including content, advertising, partnerships, sell-in materials, proofs, copywriting, social media marketing and trade marketing. 

  • Effectively communicate marketing campaigns internally and externally as necessary 

  • Measure and evaluate campaigns, sharing learnings and optimising for future activity

  • Set KPIs, monitor ROI, and provide ongoing analysis of campaigns to inform our marketing and publishing decisions 

  • Contribute to and attending pitches for new acquisitions with agents and authors

  • Liaise with international teams on retail promotions, marketing assets and blogger outreach

  • Use consumer insight and data to understand readerships and inform target audiences

  • Work with brand and media partners to leverage reader interest and expand our consumer reach

  • Work with digital agencies to implement innovative marketing campaigns and best-in-class activity

  • Demonstrate strong agency, media and blogger relationships to help maximise all communications opportunities and activity

  • Support a culture of collaboration and integration, working closely with Publicity, Sales and Editorial to ensure that all stakeholder needs are met

Skills required:

  •   Proven experience of delivering strategic, effective marketing campaigns

  • Track record in generating outstanding creative work that delivers against objectives

  • Excellent communication and people skills, ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders

  • Experience working in at a trade publisher with major brands is desirable rather than compulsory but the candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

  • Creativity essential

  • Commercially astute, with a focus on ROI

  • Excellent negotiation and relationship skills

  • Highly organised

  • Active interest in the latest marketing trends and campaigns from across the book industry as well as the wider entertainment and media sector

  • Enjoys reading widely with an active interest in the publishing industry – particular interest in  non-fiction desirable

  • Team-player, looking to share their learnings with the wider marketing team and foster a culture of shared learning
