Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team in one of Glasgow’s largest distribution centres. As part of the Site Services Team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the site and its assets to support the operations team and the wider business.

The Role

To work in conjunction with the Site Services Technical Manager and wider M&E team to ensure the availability of machinery and equipment throughout the site, play a pivotal role in monitoring, maintenance, improvement and control of our production, automation and plant operations. Carrying out regular compliance PPM tasks and general reactive maintenance works. Full training on brand-new state of the art high-speed packaging equipment will be provided in a purpose built and new facility.

This position is for a shift-based Engineer working a rotating schedule to support both early and back shifts, depending on operational needs. The role runs Monday to Friday on a three-shift rotation within core hours of 06:00 to 20:00 (06:00-14:00, 08:00-16:00, and 12:00-20:00). You will also participate in a three person on-call rota, with additional pay provided for on-call duties and any overtime required for out-of-hours site coverage.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance of distribution centre machinery, including sorters, conveyor systems, packing machines and balers.

  • Perform PPMs and record maintenance tasks using CMMs/CAFM systems.

  • Support the Site Services team across a range of maintenance tasks, including multi-skilled work outside core expertise.

  • Maintain high standards of engineering practice and adhere to health & safety procedures, Safe Systems of Work and ISO standards.

  • Ensure electrical system compliance, including 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and safe isolation procedures.

  • Review processes and recommend improvements to machinery, plant and site equipment.

  • Read and interpret technical electrical drawings.

  • Maintain effective communication and strong working relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders.

  • Participate in shift work, overtime and an on-call rota as required.

  • Collaborate on projects assigned by the Technical Manager and contribute to continuous personal development.

Requirements

Qualifications

Essential:

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

  • NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or related field

  • Electrical/Mechanical engineer with strong technical knowledge

  • BTEC / HNC / HND / City & Guilds or Degree in Engineering or related field

Desirable:

  • Mechanical engineering experience

  • L8 Training

  • IPAF certification

  • Knowledge of advanced Quality Management Systems (QMS)

Experience

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a similar multi-skilled engineering role

  • Experience maintaining and repairing automated machinery and production equipment

  • Experience using BMS systems

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with M&E processes

  • Experience using CAFM systems and maintaining records of tasks, spare parts, and compliance documentation

Skills / Competencies

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to recognise when issues need escalation

  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt
