Job Description

Introduction to the role

With a history stretching back over 200 years, HarperCollins is the second largest consumer book publisher in the world. Here at HarperCollins UK, we publish around 1,500 books a year for readers of all ages and interests.

The HarperCollins Pricing & Analytics team is looking for a Content Assistant to work on and support the creation of blog content at scale for the HarperCollins UK website. The intern will proof, edit and secure stakeholder approval for the articles written. This will include ensuring content is accurate, well-written and engaging, and in line with business strategy. This is a 2 month fixed term contract, and you will need to be available from July to September (or for the full 2 months after the internship start date).

 Key tasks and accountabilities:

  • Proofing, cross-checking and editing multiple articles a day to ensure copy is accurate, well-written and engaging.

  • Using marketing platforms, including our Blog app, to make edits to articles (basic HTML experience is helpful).

  • Liaising with key stakeholders across all imprints, to ensure marketers have provided relevant book suggestions for each article, and after the article is generated securing marketer approval before publication.

  • Data management, by inputting ISBNs shared by divisions into a central tracker, and also keeping on top of the approval tracker, so we know which articles have been signed off by the divisions.

  • Working closely with the Group Senior Growth Marketing Manager to ensure the articles are written to a high standard and that deadlines are met.

Skills required:

  • Excellent attention to detail, ideally with copywriting experience

  • Time management is key, with the ability to hit tight deadlines

  • Strong communication skills, especially having to deal with multiple stakeholders

  • Enthusiasm! We want someone who wants to grab this opportunity with both hands and is keen to work in the publishing industry

  • Able to get to grips with new platforms quickly

  • A passion for the written word

  • HTML experience is desirable, not essential

Benefits

  • Hybrid working model (3 days in the office)

  • 28 days holiday plus bank holidays

  • Private healthcare cover and life assurance

  • Summer Hours

  • Free access to HeadSpace, employee assistance programme (24 hour helpline), mental health first aiders, and a wellbeing portal

  • Employee networks: HC All In (open forum), Elevate (for ethnic minority colleagues), HarperParents, Menopause at Work, Pride at HC, Social Mobility Network and Neurodiversity at Work

  • Unlimited training on our Learning and Development portal

  • Virtual GP and eyecare vouchers

  • Gym membership discount

  • Onsite physiotherapy (London only)

  • We're a certified Carbon Neutral company

  • Free e-books and audiobooks, newspaper subscriptions and discounts on books

  • Subsidised canteen and retail discounts

  • Onsite prayer room
