Job Description

The Cognition Company is looking to appoint a Research Associate with a focus on Statistics who would likely join the team while completing a PhD in a relevant field or undertaking post-doctoral research.

The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of applied statistical methods. Some examples of work you might be asked to support include (though we don’t expect a single candidate to necessarily be able to do all of the following things):

  • Undertaking power calculations to determine appropriate sample sizes for running experiments through online platforms.

  • Advising on ways of randomising a population sample in order to conduct an online experiment through an app or online platform, including where the technology has not necessarily been built to run A/B tests.

  • Designing online experiments in software like Qualtrics to allow us to carry out exploratory research. For example, running choice experiments to see how users weight different attributes of a choice.

  • Running statistical tests and analyses on the data generated via experiments to determine what worked and what didn’t.

  • Supporting the production of literature reviews, which explore what the research says about the potential impact of different behavioural interventions on user or customer behaviour.

Wherever possible we will try to align our projects with your research interests. We strongly encourage academic research and will support you in converting your work with us into academic publications.

You will report to the Director (Behavioural Decision-Making), but will work flexibly with everyone at The Cognition Company.
