Job Description
Introduction to the role
Collins schools publishing delivers up-to-date and engaging student resources and exceptional teacher support to help UK and International schools tackle new initiatives and utilise the latest technology. The small Product Development team are content developers and editorial project managers, working with authors and freelancers to create print and digital resources from the publisher’s brief to final sign off. We are looking for a Content Editor to support the team in ensuring projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard through a variety of administrative and editorial tasks. This is a vital role with scope to progress quickly and take responsibility for entire stages of the process and small projects with support. It would be suitable for someone looking for their first job in educational publishing.
Key tasks and accountabilities:
Supports senior project lead with administrative tasks involved in briefing and managing of copy-editing, design and proofreading
Runs checks on manuscripts and proofs, manages resolution of queries
Conducts picture research
Becomes familiar with budgets and schedules, measuring progress against them and feeding into estimates for their creation
Manages own time and prioritises tasks with support
May run small projects with support
Communicates in an appropriate, clear and timely way with a range of people inside and outside the company
Your first six months
Supporting a variety of projects and working with different colleagues, you will quickly become comfortable with print and digital publishing products and processes at Collins. You will be increasingly familiar with the education landscape and with key considerations for different end users. You will have become confident taking responsibility for successful completion of tasks with increasing autonomy and an understanding of when escalation is required. You will be comfortable asking questions, proposing alternative viewpoints, solutions or improvements and explaining your reasoning and will feel your voice is heard and valued.
