Job Description

The EDI Manager will guide and drive forward our vision to build a more diverse, accessible, safe and inclusive environment at Comic Relief. The EDI Manager will be a key influencer in the organisation, working with leadership and stakeholders across the organisation to advise on, implement and support a range of initiatives and activities to increase and embed inclusive practice at Comic Relief.

Key responsibilities

Strategic implementation

  • Oversight and project management of delivery of the diversity and inclusion strategy.

  • Ongoing management and evolution of our EDI strategy and roadmap, working towards clear and measurable goals

  • With the Head of People and Culture, provide regular reporting, identify risks and opportunities for continuous improvement to the Executive and Trustees.

  • Track and produce internal feedback, metrics, targets and analytics to understand and track performance in the organisation, including legislative requirements.

  • Provide analysis and expert advice on how diverse and inclusive Comic Relief’s people practices are, and conduct diversity assessments of wider organisational practices and processes.

  • With communications and assurance functions, establish simple and effective communications plans to report our progress to stakeholders and the public. 

Diverse workforce and inclusive culture

  • Provide expert guidance to the EDI Steering Group, who will coordinate across and drive initiatives in line with the strategy.

  • Working with external providers, develop and deliver in-house training and development to upskill and equip staff and managers to embed and deliver on embracing diversity and inclusive practice.

  • Work closely with the People Team to design and implement inclusive recruitment practices and inclusive leadership development.

  • Review internal policies and processes to ensure compliance with the Equalities Act, and EDI strategy, improving standards of policy, practice, and reporting where necessary.

  • Support diversity networks to ensure all groups have a voice in the organisation, and creating positive action interventions to support under‐represented groups.

  • Support creative, commercial and communications functions to further EDI goals and ensure inclusive practices internally and externally.

Person specification

Essential criteria

  • EDI practitioner with extensive experience in setting and implementing strategy, demonstrating results from previous roles, preferably with teams working in a creative or commercial setting.

  • Extensive knowledge of EDI best practices and UK legislation.

  • Strong project management, analysis and reporting skills, able to demonstrate delivery of data informed approaches to EDI

  • Experience of developing and implementing EDI initiatives in practical  ways.

  • A high level of self-awareness, empathy, diplomacy, and confidentiality.

  • Excellent communication skills, factoring in the expertise, tact, tone and clarity needed for EDI topics.

Desirable criteria

  • Ability to act as a coach, trainer and mentor, building skills, knowledge, and capacity within the organisation.

  • Well-connected externally into EDI networks and communities.
