Job Description
HarperCollins are looking for a Junior Commercial Analyst to join the Commercial Finance team. The successful candidate will assist with the budgeting and forecasting process, month end financial reporting and will provide commercial and strategic support to the publishing division.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in budgeting and forecasting divisional financial performance
Ensure that the publishing schedule is accurately reflected in the budget and forecast
Work with other areas of the business (e.g. editorial, sales, production and marketing) to gain relevant information to help compile budget and forecast
Input/update budget/forecast in our finance system
Assist in month end analysis of the division’s performance against forecast and budget
Work with Group Finance to calculate the monthly costs charged to the Profit & Loss tracker
Assist in preparation of reports for monthly divisional commercial meetings, including the month end commercial pack
Assist the commercial manager in providing financial information to the division to inform commercial decisions.
Sales reporting to identify trends, analyse performance and inform future decision making
Prepare and report on profitability of previous publications to aid decisions on future acquisitions
Key Skills/Experience
Experience in a fast-paced finance team, to include involvement in budgeting, forecasting and month end reporting OR office experience in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and changing priorities
Commitment to gaining an accountancy qualification
Excel skills including formulas, charts and pivot tables
Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial staff – both written and verbal.
Highly organised and able to juggle several different projects at once
High level of attention to detail
Analytical skills to include investigation and explanation of the causes of variances.
Proactive approach to problem solving
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
