Job Description

The Junior Commercial Analyst is a key member of a small commercial finance team embedded within the largest publishing division in HarperCollins. The team has responsibility for preparation of investment cases for acquisitions, profitability reviews, annual budget, month end analysis and reporting, regular forecasting, long term planning and reporting.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Preparation of annual budget and monthly forecasts

  • Timely production of departmental P&L's and detailed sales and title profitability reports

  • Detailed analysis of forecast and budget

  • Collaborate with non-financial departments (e.g. editorial, sales, production and marketing) to compile relevant information for budget and forecast

  • Take ownership of timely and accurate production of reporting packs for the Commercial Director to present to UK Exec members including the CFO and CEO

  • Complete month end tasks which feed into Group reporting and ensuring that a database for monitoring these is properly maintained

  • Prepare month end analysis of actual performance of the divisions (and departments within) against forecast and budget

  • Assist the Commercial Manager when required to provide the division with financial information to assist with further commercial decisions, examples of this include sales reporting to show trends and inform future forecasts.

  • Create and maintain a tracker for bonus advances, notifying Commercial Manager and editor when targets are reached

  • Maintaining an acquisitions tracker, and ensuring all files/folders are updated to share the same cohesive information

Qualifications / Experience

  • Office and administrative experience in a fast-paced team (candidates to not need to have finance experience specifically).

  • Commitment to gaining an ACCA/CIMA qualification

Skills / Abilities

  • Excel skills including formulas, charts and pivot tables

  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial staff – both written and verbal.

  • Highly organised and able to juggle several different projects at once

  • High level of attention to detail

Disposition

  • Demonstrable love of and interest in books and publishing.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
