Job Description
The Role
The PNT Team at the Satellite applications Catapult has the primary purpose of growing the PNT industry in the UK. This has the dual benefit of increasing economic growth and the UK’s PNT resilience. The PNT Team aim to achieve this purpose by:
Convening and contributing to collaborative and impactful R&D projects that seek to pull through research from the academic world into real world products and services offered by UK industry.
Providing thought leadership and prompting innovation in PNT in the UK and internationally.
Working closely with Government to develop initiatives that will improve UK PNT resilience and promote growth including development of standards, test facilities, regulatory frameworks and technical capabilities.
Providing advice and technical support to UK PNT companies that require some technical support to grow.
Skills & Experience Required
Required:
Sound understanding of signal processing fundamentals including time and frequency domain processing, waveforms and algorithms.
Understanding of the application of digital signal processing to RF signals including modulation, coding, digital downconversion, filtering and decimation.
Experience in real time implementation of RF signal processing on FPGA or DSP platforms.
Desirable:
Experience with signal processing of PNT signals such as those from GNSS.
Experience of antenna array signal processing in the context of Satellite Communications terminal antennas and/or PNT Controlled Response Pattern Antennas.
Experience with Matlab and HDL coder.
Understanding of overall RF system Architectures.
Understanding and experience with RF propagation modelling and channel modelling for PNT and/or Comms systems.
Understanding of alternate PNT (non-GNSS) technologies.
Experience with Extended Kalman filters or use of other forms of filter such as particle filters or factor graph methods.
Qualifications Required:
A master’s degree in a relevant STEM subject and at least 5 years relevant industrial experience
or
A PhD in a relevant field and at least 2 year’s relevant post PhD experience
