Job Description

Overall purpose of the role

This is a position within the Design team for esteemed imprints, William Collins and 4th Estate. We are looking for someone to hit the ground running with a good knowledge of design, layout and a strong collaborator. The Artworker will be responsible for taking designs produced by the team and developing them into full cover layouts as well as preparing the artwork for print. We are open to those with some design experience or those looking for their first role in this field for publishing. 

Responsibilities:

  • Produce and prepare cover layouts for production

  • Take in corrections on artwork

  • Amend and send reprints 

  • Create adapts of existing covers

  • Set up files with finishes

  • Lay out proofs for the marketing team

  • Aid the design team when needed

Person Specification

  • Good working knowledge of Adobe suite, in particular Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator

  • Strong organisational skills

  • Experience in cover design or packaging desirable but not necessary

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong communication skills

  • A love of design and books

  • Ability to multitask, work on own initiative and keep to deadlines.

  • Attention to detail

  • Team player

Degree not necessary, but should have a good foundation knowledge of design principles
