Job Description
Please note this is a hybrid role based on the successful candidate working at least two days a week in our London office. Remote contracts would not be considered for this role.
Comic Relief reserves the right to close the role early if a large number of applications are received.
PURPOSE OF ROLE
As Comic Relief’s Content Strategist, you’ll shape and deliver content for a range of communications projects; provide expert guidance on everything from writing and developing content that cuts through across various channels and contribute to building our knowledge and evidence base on which content decisions are made. You'll build strong relationships and collaborate with other teams to manage and improve website; social, digital and offline content, and train and support colleagues to use content design and analytical techniques and tools.
You’ll be the connector between insight, creativity, and content execution. You’ll collaborate with and inspire colleagues to think about audiences first—who they are, what they care about, where they are and how they behave, particularly across digital platforms and you’ll translate this into sharp strategies for how Comic Relief deploys a full range of cause and entertainment content to inspire generosity and drive change towards a just world free from poverty. You’ll be a trend-spotter, innovator, storyteller and analyst. You’ll decode data, distil cultural insights and signals, and turn them into channel specific content strategies and plans for our campaigns, strategic communications and year-round engagement activities, ensuring our communications excite, inspire and perform against set organisational objectives and goals, particularly as measured by depth, breadth and scale of audience engagement.
This role will work hand in hand with channel and audience experts to ensure that we are developing the right content for the right people and putting it out on the right platforms, all whilst ensuring Comic Relief’s content builds brand relevancy, saliency and credibility.
This is a hands-on, insight-led creative role where analytical curiosity and creative excellence is essential.

Key Responsibilities
You’ll work as part of a cross organisational Communications & Brand Marketing team to define, shape and directly execute content strategies; content guides and content assets for a wide range of audiences, seeking to deliver on organisational business objectives and goals spanning the full marketing funnel, from awareness and consideration through to action.
You’ll stay abreast of the external landscape, tracking platform evolutions, emerging tech (incl AI), and pop culture shifts—sharing insights and presenting compelling evidence to colleagues to ensure Comic Relief’s communications are pitched at the heart of culture, conversation, and are commercially savvy.
You’ll deeply understand Comic Relief’s key communications objectives and channels; business partnering with colleagues to translate brand and business goals into actionable content plans with clear KPIs
You’ll directly deliver to briefs, incl writing/developing, editing, proofing and supporting the publishing of content for communications projects and marketing campaigns across an evolving range of paid, owned and earned channels.
You’ll develop and consistently update your own, and colleagues’ understanding of our audiences content consumption behaviours, passions, platform patterns working closely with our Audience Strategists and Audience / channel owners, to use this knowledge to inform, refine and test approaches and improve business performance.
You’ll audit, analyse and help optimise content performance, developing dashboards and reporting to identify performance drivers, diagnose underperformance and developing actionable insights to guide new content investments and executions. segmentation, content planning, and performance optimization.
You’ll support teams to optimise audience content planning and delivery, specifically responding to briefs to develop and execute content approaches that make customer journeys seamless, engaging, and high-converting.
You’ll provide training and advice to colleagues and partners on best practice for content planning and execution, leading the organisation in staying abreast of evolving content tools and approaches and ensuring these are deployed to best effect.
You’ll collaborate with our talent team and ambassadors, influencers and creators to brief and review creator content, supporting and guiding as well as working as part of our wider Communications and Brand Marketing team to ensure earned content is on-brand, relevant, and platform optimised.
PERSON SPECFICIATION
Essential Criteria
Able to demonstrate a culturally curious approach to content development, with evidence of how you’re at the pulse of cultural conversation – with proven knowledge of fashion, music, gaming, tech, memes, and beyond.
Entrepreneurial mindset: proactive, adaptive, and energized by a fluid environment.
Extensive experience of working in growth marketing teams with a focus on creative / content strategy and content delivery.
Proven experience working across performance-driven creative, with a deep understanding of content measurement frameworks, ad metrics, audience segmentation, and platform best practices, incl proven knowledge of SEO, accessibility, and a range of content design techniques.
Confidence in using data tools, performance dashboards and AI to unlock smarter insights, faster planning, sharper recommendations and to optimise content at scale
Strong knowledge of social platforms, digital ecosystems, and how they connect to consumer behaviour.
Excellent communications skills, specifically expert writing and strong presentation and storytelling skills and a proven ability to use and spot tone, nuance, and deliver emotionally resonance work.

Technical capability to personally develop and execute strategic content that meets user needs across a range of audiences, formats and channels.
Strong collaboration skills, confident training and working with a wide range of colleagues and content creators
Desirable Criteria
Evidence of embedding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) into content decisions and strategy and of measuring its effectiveness in reaching and resonating with diverse audiences.
A wide portfolio of high-performing content, showing strong copywriting, storytelling and audience-specific content and tone of voice application across a variety of platforms.
Experience of working on/with international and UK social impact causes.
Experience in the charity sector, with an understanding of how content is deployed to drive performance results.
Experience in entertainment or broadcast with proven success of connecting with wide audiences through culturally relevant, timely content.
