Job Description

The Cognition Company is looking to appoint an Associate Behavioural Scientist.

In this role, you would be expected to support the work we undertake with a range of different companies - from tech start-ups to larger corporates. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, which will include behavioural scientists, data scientists and designers.

You will have knowledge of the behavioural science literature; and a good understanding of applied statistical methods, which you are likely to use to support the running of (online) experiments. You will likely have gained these skills through relevant academic training; and have experience of working with clients as part of a project team.

Some examples of work you might be asked to support include (though we don’t expect a single candidate to necessarily be able to do all of the following things):

-        Providing insights from a behavioural science perspective as to how best to optimise an app or service (e.g. the best way of increasing engagement or using incentives)

-        Advising on different methodological approaches for testing users’, citizens’ or customers’ behaviours (e.g. running an online experiment to understand the role of default settings in an online platform).

-        Advising on survey design to gather qualitative data from participants

-        Putting together slide decks and presentations that set out a range of interesting behavioural effects, which are of particular interest to our partner companies

-        Writing reports, think pieces or blog posts that summarise the outcomes of research, including from research studies that we have run ourselves.

-        Supporting in the Cognition Company’s ongoing programme of work to apply the latest evidence to our own ways of working.

-        Participating in partner meetings and presentations, delivering key findings and relevant insights

Skills and Experience

All candidates must be able to demonstrate the following:

-        You must have an academic background in behavioural science or a related field (e.g. economics or psychology)

-        Good grounding in statistics (there will be other people in the team who have advanced stats skills with whom you will work)

-        Excellent ability to apply insights from your academic background to real-world situations

-        Experience of working as part of a team, including delivering work to tight deadlines for a client

-        Good project management skills

-        Excellent team player

-        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

-        Ability to independently deliver high quality work to a tight deadline, feeding into the wider work being undertaken as part of a team

 Desirable but not Essential:

-        Experience in running online behavioural experiments

-        Data visualisation skills
