Job Description
Introduction to the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Sales to join our HQ, Pavilion and Mills & Boon division, working with retailers, the publishing division, as well as the wider UK sales team.
The role requires the ability to form strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, excellent organisation skills and a desire to be involved in the whole publishing process. Ultimately, we are looking for someone who can take the initiative and is truly eager to work on our amazing list.
This role offers the opportunity to gain great experience working across a variety of commercial fiction and non-fiction brands, including Adele Parks, Louise Candlish, Sarah Morgan and Erica James as well as genre busting non-fiction such as Davina McCall, Trinny Woodall and TJ Power.
The Head of Sales, HQ will work closely alongside the Divisional Sales Director to own and drive the performance of the division in the home market. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the HQ sales team and play a key role in ensuring the commercial success of the divisions’ key authors and brands across the key UK accounts, from supermarkets and mass market channels to online and high-street.
Key tasks and accountabilities:
Work with the Sales Director to ensure the success of all divisional titles and imprints, delivering on agreed growth targets and corporate objectives.
Proactive management of one direct report and liaising with group sales team.
Play a key role in developing marketing strategies with relevant teams, ensuring they are geared towards key retail stakeholders.
Play a key role in developing divisional strategies with editorial teams, ensuring they are well informed of the ever-changing UK retail landscape and that ongoing publishing reflects these factors.
Full responsibility for managing divisional print meetings alongside the Sales Director and Commercial Director.
Working with the Sales Director on acquisitions and acquisitions strategies alongside senior stakeholders within the division.
You will be expected to act independently in terms of day-to-day activities within the division. You will manage budgets and targets in conjunction with the Sales Director and commercial/finance teams.
Skills required:
Experience as Senior Key Account or above in publishing.
A proven record in handling major customers and negotiating wider business deals, alongside strategic publishing/sales input into acquisitions and marketing plans.
A great salesperson – results driven, entrepreneurial, fantastic at building and maintaining relationships and able to adapt to customers’ requirements while influencing them.
A strong and influential communicator in all formats (in person, on email, by phone and remotely).
Financially aware: able to make informed predictions and analyse results.
Organised, able to prioritise, agile and quick to respond to both internal and external stakeholders.
A team player; effective with all colleagues and willing to help others and give credit.
An example for others to follow: aware of your own impact, willing to hold others to high standards and deliver constructive feedback to the team.
