Job Description

HarperCollins is one of the UK’s foremost, diverse and innovative multi-platform publishers. With nearly 200 years of history, we publish some of the world’s foremost authors, from Nobel prize-winners to worldwide bestsellers.

We are looking for Intern to join our Marcomms Internship Programme, starting at the end of October for 6 months. The successful candidate will support the Marcomms team for our fast-paced and exciting HarperNonFiction division, responsible for bringing you great titles from high profile authors such as Ant Middleton, Marcus Wareing, Grace Dent and Debbie Harry. The ideal candidate will be a hard-working and dedicated future Publicity/Marketing Assistant with a passion for books, popular culture and the media industry.

This is a unique opportunity to be introduced to all aspects of nonfiction marketing and publicity. We also offer the candidate a comprehensive introduction to all areas of the publishing process, complete with appropriate training and professional development opportunities from senior members of the team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the team in dealing with media, authors, booksellers and general public

  • Write, design and mail press releases and promotional material

  • Create mailing lists

  • Follow up pitches and mailings

  • Assist in organising author tours to include regional media and bookshop events

  • Provide administrative support i.e. ordering and mailing of books, stationery and newspapers, distribute and file press cuttings, invoicing, updating publicity and marketing databases, organise meetings and diary management

  • Proactively contribute to the development of author brands and backlist

  • Co-ordinate meetings internally and with external high-profile authors, celebrities and personalities as required, via the appropriate agent and assistant channels

  • Produce PowerPoint presentations for the Marketing/PR Director as briefed

  • Attend and support at author events

  • Facilitate competitions with brand partners

  • Brief freelance designers on marketing assets with a focus on social and digital

  • Write copy and facilitate online reading community giveaways/promotions

  • Contribute to the division’s social media channel

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to help organise others

  • Ability to manage high workloads, and to work as a team and with others.

  • Ability to communicate confidently at all levels

  • Excellent powerpoint and excel skills

  • Analytical

  • Self-starter demonstrating a high level of motivation, drive and commitment

  • Energy and dynamism to juggle workload under pressure whilst still smiling!

  • Capable of being an ambassador for the team when dealing with high profile personalities and celebrity agents
