Job Description

We have an opportunity for an experienced Project Delivery Manager (this is our job title for Head of Project Management) to lead and inspire a group of talented Project Managers that manage a diverse range of cutting-edge technology and innovation projects within the burgeoning Space Sector.

Growth, learning and collaborative working are integral to the individual and the team, both internally and with the organisations we work with. You will be joining a team of people which is passionate about improving how they work and has collaboration at its heart.  The role will report into the Director of Innovative Delivery and work closely across the leadership of the whole Catapult to deliver measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for ensuring high-quality delivery and financial performance of Projects.

  • Develop a delivery environment where commitment to quality and consistency is second nature.

  • Manage the PMs (around 15 FTE at the moment) so they are effectively resourced, structured and trained to deliver projects varying in size from small single year projects to multiyear, consortium based high value, even higher impact projects.

  • Provide guidance, leadership and management to people of varying experience, focusing on coaching, motivating, engaging and developing them to perform in their roles as best as possible

  • Change the way decisions are made by using a risk-based approach to everything we do.

  • Utilise a continuous improvement mindset to look for opportunities to change the ways things are done

  • Work closely with the Delivery Governance Manager to deliver better ways to report, escalate and assure quality

Skills & Experience required:

  • Excellent adaptive project management expertise particularly in a highly innovative environment.

  • The ability to develop and train others in project management best practices.

  • The ability to hold multiple goals in focus at the same time

  • Strong leadership capability, able to develop talent and capabilities, identify and cultivate essential skills and attributes to maximise individual contribution and engagement.

  • Good finance and reporting skills – able to work with numbers and create reports to demonstrate areas to focus.

  • An excellent problem solver, keen to support others and able to face into ‘wicked’ problems with a positive mindset

You know you have been successful when…

  • Risk based decision making is the normal way of working

  • Suitable Project controls are in place and the financial objectives are reliably achieved every time.

  • The continuous improvement plan has been achieved

  • The team feel fully supported and engaged, and coaching / mentoring is provided to support growth when required.

  • Your leadership enhances the working environment; encouraging diversity of thinking and ensures collaboration is at the heart of the team

How we work:

We strive to create a high trust environment that enables team members to bring their whole selves to work – this helps to create the foundations of an innovation culture.
Our shared values are critical to this:

  • We care - for our people, our partners, and our planet

  • We connect - and engage with people and ideas

  • We learn - and grow, as people and as an industry

Underpinning this is our belief in great teams, our combined efforts will always deliver outcomes beyond that of any individual providing we are honest through debate, experiment and reflect, and create shared resolutions in support of our purpose. Live these values, work to our principles, take ownership to deliver, and we are certain you will thrive with us.
