Job Description
The Audio Assistant, reporting to the Group Digital Director, will be a key part of the audio team who deliver the HarperCollins best-in-class audio programme.
This is a junior position in the team where administration forms the backbone of the role and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time is crucial. This is an exciting role that offers development opportunities working with the world class editors to learn new skills whilst working in the exciting and growing audio publishing industry.
Our audio programme covers everything from picture books to literary novels, fantasy to celebrity memoirs from audio originals to podcasts. This role assists with the audio publishing programme from start to finish. Duties will include keeping on top of delivery schedules, reporting and traffic management, liaison with the various Divisions and external studios, managing invoices, helping with retailer queries, coordinating with US publishers to buy and sell masters, developing social media ideas and assets and managing the SoundCloud account.
We’re looking for someone who is highly organised and motivated, but also has ideas and is keen to work with the dynamic audio team, and wider HC teams, to contribute to HarperCollins continuation in audio publishing innovation.
Key tasks and accountabilities:
Maintaining delivery schedule by ensuring files are delivered from studios and then distributed to retailers on time
Managing invoicing for the audio team
Collation of manuscripts for recording
Commissioning and management of cover art
Buying Masters in from US Publishers
Work with Audio Editors (excl. Fiction and Non-Fiction) to assist on tasks including shortlisting casting options, assisting with studio bookings and recordings, preparing scripts etc
Ad-hoc updating of the bibliographic database
Creation of audio clips and extracts for marketing
Management of SoundCloud account
Generating ideas and creating social media assets
The ideal candidate will hold the following skills:
We are looking for someone with a creative mindset and have a keen ear and passion for audio.
Basic knowledge of production techniques and editing practice
Knowledge of social media and creating social media assets
Ability to think creatively and “outside the box”
Can work independently and as part of a team
Self-motivation and adaptability
Ability to prioritise workload efficiently and manage multiple projects
Can work effectively under pressure, react quickly and meet tight deadlines
A passion for books and publishing is essential especially audio
Experience
Excellent administration and organisation skills.
Basic level of experience in the publishing/audio publishing industry would be advantageous to the role e.g. community radio, podcast production, internship, grad scheme.
Attention to detail, e.g. via proof-reading or other related tasks
Experience of working to tight deadlines
Familiarity with publishing agreements and other copyright licences would be helpful but not essential
