Job Description

Purpose of Job 

The Producer (Broadcast) will assist the Head of Entertainment & Talent in driving all broadcast comedy/entertainment content for Comic Relief on a year-round basis, helping to communicate, embed and maintain our needs and editorial voice in our new multi-campaign strategy, including Red Nose Day, Sport Relief and our annual Winter Campaign. 

They will act as an ideas generator and creative with strong editorial sensibility and instincts, helping implement Comic Relief’s broadcast strategy of producing multiplatform content that is both funny and credible and delivers a return on investment in terms of funds raised. 

Internally, they’ll work cross-organisationally with the Director of Production, other Directors, Heads & Managers/Leads, while externally they’ll liaise with BBC commissioners, BBC Studios production teams & external production companies.                                            

Key Responsibilities:

Relationship mapping

  • To maintain and grow good working relationships with external creative partners, such as production companies, streamers and talent

  • To build networks with Comic Relief’s Factual Content, Funding, Fundraising and Partnerships teams that add value to our content offering and income generation strategy

Ideation

  • To generate, develop and execute ideas for programmes and individual initiatives within a given campaign period

  • To maintain Comic Relief’s creative editorial input with the BBC and other external production partners

 Project management

  • To maintain oversight and reporting of multiple simultaneous workstreams in a broadcast context

  • Utilising Comic Relief’s internal Project Management framework to deliver on the above

Person Specification

Essential criteria

  • TV development experience in comedy, entertainment, factual entertainment and/or popular factual genres

  • A proven track record of pitching to senior managers internally and externally

  • A strong understanding of appropriate editorial tone for Comic Relief’s content ambitions

  • An appreciation of pop culture trends and celebrity currency

  • Exceptional communication, networking and influencing skills, both written and verbal

  • Awareness of safeguarding practices and how they relate to Comic Relief’s content output

  • An appreciation of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging and its importance in Comic Relief’s broadcast development and delivery processes

 Desirable criteria

  • Technical proficiency in editing software such as Premiere Pro as well as hands-on Edit Producer experience

  • Experience in self-shooting with DSLR, FS7, α7S or similar

  • Experience creating compelling pitch decks using Adobe platforms or similar

  • Strategic thinking and swift effective decision-making

  • Experience of charity sector

Occasional National/International Travel will be required for this role.
