Job Description

 PURPOSE

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated physiotherapist to lead on the further development and implementation of medical governance processes and player health projects across the Professional Game. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring medical standards are upheld, whilst also leading projects that support best practice health and injury management. The ECB has a strategic aim to support a thriving and sustainable professional game. This exciting new role will collaborate with practitioners across the newly merged Men’s and Women’s County network with the prime objective of supporting an environment in which clinical excellence can flourish.

YOU’LL BE DOING

Work closely with the Chief Medical Officer, Heads of Science and Medicine, Discipline Leads, Heads of Domestic Game Science and Medicine, Professional Game departments of the ECB and Lead Auditor.

Provide operational leadership to support Medical standards and Assurance across the Professional Game and England Pathways:

  • Support implementation and annual review of Science and Medicine standards across the Men’s and Women’s professional game including new Women’s Tier 1, Tier 2 and Academies.  

  • Support the Medical Advisory Group and appropriate sub-committees and practitioner groups.   

  • Oversee the implementation, reporting and output of Domestic and National Team Science and Medicine Audits for both Men, Women and Disability cricket.  

  • Analyse themes in Audit Data to identify areas for improvement in player safety and clinical practice  

  • Support annual reviews of the Cricket Partnership Agreements  

Provide Development and work with ECB Clinical Support to County Practitioners e.g.

  • Support stakeholders across domestic game with advice and guidance  including online systems.  

  • Support Professional Game Practitioner development including Annual Conferences  

  • Support the development of ECB discipline specific strategies and guidelines  

  • Work with ECB Emergency Care Lead on game wide Advanced life support standards  

Support Game Wide Injury Prevention Activities

  • Support interpretation and implementation of insights from Injury Surveillance Team and Game Wide systems 

  • Support ECB game wide IT medical infrastructure including Athlete Medical Systems, Databases, radiology systems and Insights360  

  • Support whole game Duty of Care research projects e.g. Fast Bowling injury prevention  

  • Provide support of game wide priorities e.g. concussion  

  • Ensure all medical policies are regularly reviewed and updated based on the latest research and best practice 

Compliance & Ethical Standards

  • Support the Professional Game to ensure all medical practices align with anti-doping regulations, ethical guidelines, and legal requirements 

  • Support the Professional Game to uphold confidentiality and informed consent processes, ensuring players are aware of their rights and responsibilities regarding medical care, treatment and support  

  • Develop and deliver training sessions on medical governance and ethical standards including mandatory training  

Clinical Delivery

  • Provide limited days clinical support to England Pathways including touring and rehab of England players 

  • Any other duties deemed reasonable by the ECB 

YOU’LL HAVE

Education and accreditation:

  • A degree in Physiotherapy (BSc or MSc).

  • A post-graduate degree in a related field (desirable)

  • Current professional registration with HCPC

Experience:

  • Proven experience as a sport’s physiotherapist, including leadership responsibilities in elite sport 

  • Proven experience in leading medical governance, quality assurance or injury risk management in sport 

  • Cricket specific experience will be considered helpful but not essential  

  • Project management experience: conception to delivery 

Skills:

  • Expertise in sports physiotherapy, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and athlete health

  • Strong understanding of medical governance, injury risk management and medico-legal regulations

  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
