Job Description

The Marketing Manager or Audience Development Manager will work closely with the Marketing and Brand Director, and all members of the Marcomms team to implement digital strategies to grow and develop our audiences, across all of our owned HCCB channels, plus our individual author brands channels. Our aims are to drive profit and growth across all brands, and we see driving continued understanding and engagement with our audience as absolutely key to our strategy.

We are looking for someone to come in and act as a champion for audience development and engagement within the team. Someone who understands how to use all aspects of the digital marketing landscape in order to help grow our respective networks, to drive engagement and sales. We would expect this person to keep abreast of any interesting competitor activity in this space (for similar target markets), and to keep up to date with developments in technology to aide audience engagement. The new Manager will work with all members of the Marcomms team to optimise all opportunities across the whole mix.

Key tasks and accountabilities

  • Lead on paid social campaigns – evaluate and communicate metrics; work with campaign owners to optimise

  • Implement and optimise ads across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Google and Amazon

  • Lead on discoverability for HCCB titles by optimising metadata, SEO and PPC

  • Work with the Marcomms team to develop and implement content plans that effectively reach and engage our audiences and influencers

  • Continuously develop HCCB Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest channels; identify opportunities to improve social media strategy

  • Own our website content management and work collaboratively to build performance and communities

  • Maintain gold standard of marketing in line with data laws and compliance

  • Work with the PR team to build a list of trusted influencers and media contacts

  • Act as the key contact at events to collaborate with the PR team to ensure all digital needs and outputs are seamlessly achieved

Your first six months

  • Familiarise yourself with all HCCB owned channels, plus individual author brands social media channels and websites that are managed by HCCB team

  • Takeover day to day management and implementation of our CRM programme, our social media channels

  • Develop and implement content plan for all HCCB digital channels

Experience required

  • Digital marketing and media experience across paid, owned and earned channels

  • Success with social media and online community management

  • Operational experience across advertising platforms, social insights, and scheduling tools

  • Experienced using website content management platforms and web analytics

  • Experience of marketing (and remarketing) to targeted audiences

  • Previous experience or knowledge of the entertainment, arts, or media industries

Skills required

  • A passion and interest in children’s books

  • A love of digital design and well-crafted copywriting

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with a forensic eye for detail

  • Problem-solving skills, strategic thinking and operational acumen

  • Strong relationship building skills and a collaborative team player

  • Ability to breakdown multi-layered data to inform strategy
