Job Title: Volunteer Co-ordinator

Salary: £27,953 (plus £3,150 London Weighting)

PACT is a pioneering early intervention community organising project that started in Camberwell and Walworth in 2013 to support maternal mental health and early years development. We run a variety of weekly workshops that provide a fun space for kids to play and a safe environment for parents to build a network of support and share their experiences.

PACT’s priority goals:

  • To improve parental mental health and wellbeing of families

  • Develop authentic parent leaders and experts with lived experience so that we strengthen and promote a parent-led model of working

  • Improve access to services and support for PACT families to push for better life outcomes

Purpose

Volunteers are an essential part of the PACT project because we rely on them to run our activities. As our Volunteer Coordinator you will help to recruit, coordinate and support volunteers from diverse backgrounds. 

This role will also be supporting the delivery of a pilot project called Maternity Mates in partnership with Sister Circle. This project matches vulnerable pregnant women with a volunteer Maternity Mate who supports them through their journey. 

The ideal candidate is proactive, flexible and organised. You should have excellent communication skills, and enjoy building relationships, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse members of the community. The ideal candidate would actively engage with our community in Southwark, attending groups and working from the office at least 3 days a week, with some remote working.  

We have a large Spanish speaking community, speaking Spanish would be very valuable. 

Main Responsibilities

Working in the PACT project reporting to the Senior Project Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

Recruitment & Coordination: 

  • To recruit volunteers, Maternity Mates and Parent Champions from diverse backgrounds to respond to the community’s needs (e.g., community contacts, online presence, word of mouth) 

  • To carry out volunteer induction, onboarding for new volunteers 

  • Exit interviews for volunteers and references (i.e., work and Southwark Housing Stars) 

  • Organise volunteer events and celebration and support other PACT events with volunteers 

Volunteer Development: 

  • Signpost and refer volunteers to external training and employment opportunities  

  • Provide regular tailored volunteer training opportunities independently and in partnership with other organisations Regular check ins with volunteers to answer questions and offer additional support

  • Ensure that volunteers understand and implement the PACT safeguarding policy and support with regular refresher sessions

Admin & Processes:

  • Responsible for maintaining the volunteer database and all other volunteer-related admin  Coordinate with group leaders to understand needs and respond with appropriate volunteers

  • Make safeguarding referrals  

  • Support with monitoring, evaluation and reports 

Maternity Mates: 

  • Help the Project Manager to complete support assessments for parents 

  • Match Maternity Mates with parents 

  • Help the Project Manager to complete risk assessments and support plans for parents and Maternity Mates 

Build relational power to further the goals of PACT and CUK:

  • Regularly listen to volunteers to meet their needs as PACT volunteers 

  • Identify and develop relational leaders prepared to act with others for the common good 

  • Support volunteers to take action on issues which affect them 

  • Identify and encourage parents who might want to develop and become volunteers  

  • Proactively create opportunities for volunteers to develop their skills and take action

As we work with families, the job holder needs to flexible in their working hours as some activities may take place in evenings and/or weekends. Parents are at the heart of our PACT activities and as such this is a role that could fit around family and childcare commitments. Many of our staff team are local parents who work part time.  This role is hybrid it includes working at our office and venues in Southwark at least 3 times a week, these days can be flexible.
