Job Description

Junior Sustainability Consultant opportunity at Good Business

Good Business is a market-leading sustainability agency and a certified B Corp. We help businesses and brands succeed in the future by embracing transformational change. We have over 25 years’ experience of working with clients to deliver sustainability services, behaviour change and social impact programmes, and climate advice making us pioneers of the power of good.

We are looking for two Junior Sustainability Consultants to join our team based in our London office.

Please note that one position is a generalist role, supporting a range of projects across the business. The second role is suitable for someone who is comfortable working with data, and supporting social research and climate change projects as well as other projects across the business. You can indicate whether you want to be considered for the generalist position, the data position, or both, on the BeApplied platform when you complete your submission. If you would like to be considered for the data role, you will be invited to complete an Excel-based task in addition to the other selection tasks.

These are exciting opportunities for people who want to help businesses, brands, government and NGOs tackle some of the biggest social and environmental challenges of our time. How can we help inspire the next generation to think about the power their pension has to drive change? How can we bring to life the societal value of certain drinks brands through partnerships?  How quickly should a telecommunications company move towards a zero carbon future, and how can it do that?

Our clients, who include Aviva, VMO2, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, NatWest Group, and Avon, as well as social enterprises, charities, foundations, local authorities and start-ups, look to us to help them answer their questions.

You will work on client assignments as a part of our entrepreneurial and lively team, taking increasing responsibility for projects over time. You may be analysing new legislation on packaging for an FMCG company, researching volunteering opportunities for employees of a financial services company or speaking to experts on biodiversity to inform a communication's company's policies and practices. In the data role, you may be supporting our consultants to analyse the carbon footprint of companies and products, and looking for opportunities to support the company to align with a net zero future. In both roles, you will also support the growth of Good Business by contributing to our marketing efforts and identifying new business opportunities.

All our projects are tailored to our clients’ needs, so although every assignment is different, you will develop skills that will apply to a range of projects. You will be a strong communicator, who enjoys analysing problems, solving them collaboratively and creatively, and then putting solutions into practice. You will also be comfortable writing, researching, and analysing information, and presenting it in different formats.

We have a relaxed and collaborative office culture and, although our outputs are professional, our structure and approach is far from corporate or conventional. Our team is passionate, thoughtful and opinionated, with experience from a variety of industries, such as advertising, hospitality, public sector, non-profit and research.

We provide benefits and flexible support to help you be your best self at work. Some of our perks include enhanced parental leave, private medical insurance, 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays and days between Christmas and New Year when the office closes), 6% pension contribution, twice annual coaching with an external coach, and two volunteering or learning “Good Days”. Everyone has individual and group-based training and development opportunities, and a mentor and peer buddy for support and guidance.

We are looking for people who:

  • have a proven interest in business, international development and social and environmental issues

  • have strong written, verbal, analytical and communication skills

  • have strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task

  • are fully competent in MS Office applications including MS Word, Powerpoint

  • have strong data analysis skills with the ability to manipulate large data sets in Excel and draw out key insights (specifically for the data position)

  • have experience using data visualisation tools (specifically for the data position)

  • are cheerful, flexible and adaptable

Salary: £27,000-£31,000 plus benefits, depending on experience.

Start date: By early October 2024

Please note that you must have the right to live and work in the UK.

To apply, please complete the skills-based assessment on the BeApplied platform by Sunday 28th July July at 11pm. Please do not send CVs or covering letters to the Good Business team. Each task is randomised and blind-assessed, and reflects a specific skill that we are looking for as part of this role. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a test assessing data analysis skills and successful candidates will be invited to interview during August, with the first round of interviews conducted on Teams. These dates are subject to change.

Please note that if we receive a large number of applications, we may choose to screen candidates by prioritising one of the three tasks to score in the first instance, and only reviewing the submissions of the highest scoring candidates for the other two tasks.

We want to make sure that everyone who wants to apply for this role can do so. Please inform us of any adjustments you may require to participate fully in our recruitment process. You can contact Kerry  (kerry@good.business) to tell us about any needs relating to the application process. Any information you provide will be kept strictly confidential.
