Job Description

​​​​​​​This role is offered on a hybrid contract giving you the opportunity to also work from home three days a week.

PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Product Manager will work to ensure Comic Relief (CR) becomes a technology-enabled organisation. Within the business, you will apply your problem-solving skills to set up new processes while optimising and automating existing ones – taking a holistic look at the end-to-end processes across the organisation.

This exciting and impactful role focuses on product managing the Comic Relief website and supporter donation products (online, text, phone). You will be taking the lead to review and develop these products in line with the organisation’s strategy and roadmap. Your goal is to increase the effectiveness of teams by giving them the right tools to increase the impact of CR’s work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow agile Product Management principles to work closely with the Fundraising and Partnerships teams to determine their strategies, how technology can add value and deliver solutions.

  • Ownership and development of the primary income generating products; Online Donations, Pay-In, SMS Donations, IVR Donations and Prizes.

  • Use an agile Product Management methodology to continuously review these products with stakerholders, determining their alignment with their strategies.  

  • Innovate and progress the digital Fundraising products, finding new ways to generate income from public facing initiatives. Leading workshop sessions with cross-functional teams to drive product direction.  

  • Plan and lead the agile Engineering team to deliver changes and deliver new internally built products.  

  • Manage third party suppliers of products that are hosted externally.  

  • Build and own the development roadmap segment for income products within the technology roadmap.  

  • Work with the other Product Managers to prioritise and plan work across the department and deliver the highest value to CR; reduce waste, improve Return on Investment (ROI). Take part in the rotational chairing of quarterly and monthly planning meetings.  

  • Upskill individuals through delivery of documentation and training to take on Product Owner roles, handing over responsibility of processes and systems to stakeholder champions. 

  • Identify improvement opportunities, championing the practice of continuous improvement. 

  • Be an ambassador for collaborative cross-functional working across the organisation. 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: 

  • Understanding of agile principles and experience working in an agile environment. 

  • Outstanding product management skills – ability use to user-centred and evidence driven product management techniques to create viable, valuable and desirable products. 

  • Experience of evaluation and procurement of services – ensuring they are affordable and feasible. 

  • Confident at data interpretation with the ability to make data informed decisions. 

  • Understanding of the principles and processes behind effective data processing and management. 

  • Skilled/adaptable communicator – able to flex style between coach, advisor and challenger. 

  • Collaborative worker – able to work closely with leadership and other teams. 

  • Effective relationship builder with strong stakeholder management skills. 

DESIRABLE: 

  • Curious and creative thinker – to create a learning organisation committed to continuous improvement and always striving to do things better. 

  • Strong presentation skills – confident in chairing meetings and workshops, maximising the value contribution from all participents.  

  • A good technical understanding of how digital products are built (particularly on AWS).
