Job Description

As part of Comic Relief’s dynamic and influential People Team, the in-house Recruitment Officer will lead resourcing activities ensuring we attract the best talent from the widest talent pools to help achieve our vision of a just world free from poverty They will deliver an inclusive, insightful and high-quality recruitment experience to internal managers and candidates. The post holder will help shape Comic Relief’s resourcing strategy at an exciting time in our history.                                                       

Key responsibilities:

Overseeing the recruitment and selection process

  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment processes - from resource request and approval through to verbal offers - supporting and advising hiring managers in the process and recruitment best practice

  • Manage the application and selection process through Comic Relief’s applicant tracking system, and support hiring managers to use the system effectively.

  • Work with the L&D Manager to refine and deliver the Recruitment and Selection training modules of Comic Relief’s Management Development Programme

  • Oversee the candidate journey in order to maximise opportunities for engagement

  • Develop and use innovative direct sourcing techniques and creative approaches to attract candidates to opportunities

  • Work with managers to develop the most effective selection methods to extract the information we need from candidates, at every stage of the process

  • Build and manage relationships with recruitment agencies and memberships of networks so Comic Relief has access to the broadest and most diverse talent pools

Data and analytics

  • Develop and manage tools that enable the effective tracking of multiple, concurrent recruitment activities, and compliance with internal processes

  • Extract and interrogate data from Comic Relief’s applicant tracking system in order to assess and report against the effectiveness of our recruitment efforts both in terms of successfully filling vacancies with excellent candidates in a timely manner, but also in terms of eliminating bias and increasing the diversity of applications and appointments.

  • Conduct evaluations after large scale recruitment campaigns to identify and embed lessons learned.

Equitable recruitment

  • Invest in building out our networks, job boards and other sources of candidates from marginalised and underrepresented groups

  • Working with the EDI Manager, deliver and deliver unconscious bias training for new hiring managers

  • Provide guidance to managers on application and interview questions, eliminating inadvertent bias and maintaining a focus on competencies.

  • Ensure diverse interview panels and short listers

Person specification

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience delivering the entire recruitment cycle, in an in-house recruitment role, or in a generalist HR role with a desire to specialise.

  • Previous experience with direct sourcing methods, including through social media and professional networks

  • A good understanding of UK employment law and how this impacts recruitment/ equality and diversity in recruitment practices

  • Experience with the use of applicant tracking software and HR databases

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels and build strong working relationships

  • A proactive team player with excellent planning and prioritisation skills.

  • A creative problem solver, able to perform in an environment of ambiguity and juggle a busy workload

  • Experience of producing recruitment data and insight for regular reporting and to demonstrate delivery against key accountability metrics

Desirable criteria

  • CIPD qualified or working towards a qualification

  • Experience working within a charity or media context

  • Experience of delivering training
