Job Description

​​This role is offered on a hybrid contract giving you the opportunity to also work from home three days a week.

​​Purpose of job:​ 

As  an interim People Advisor in this newly created role, you'll be joining the People Team to provide operational HR support and advice to Comic Relief staff and managers across the employment lifecycle. You will be the primary point of contact for support and HR advice to colleagues. 

The interim People Advisor is a newly created role with the potential to become permanent. The successful candidate will join Comic Relief’s People Team to provide expertise and advice to our staff across the employment lifecycle. Acting as the primary point of contact and support to Comic Relief’s staff on a range of HR topics across all stages of the employee lifecycle you will have good listening skills, attention to detail and HR knowledge. 

As a People Advisor , you'll be joining at an exciting time as we procure and implement a new HR system. You will be instrumental in working as part of the team to ensure all managers and employees still receive an excellent HR service during this change project 

 

​​Key responsibilities: ​ 

Expert Advice 

  • Manage all  informal employee complaints in line with best practice and comic Relief Policies & Procedures. Adopt appropriate measures to resolve employee complaints. 

  • Coach, advise and support employees on all aspects of the employee lifecycle, helping them to get the best from the tools available and understand Comic Relief’s policies and  procedures 

  • Collaborate with the Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) team when necessary around sensitive issues i.e data requests that may arise relating to staff network groups and workforce DEIB. Ensure all  information/issues are handled with care and tact, in line with Comic Relief procedures 

  • Serve as a solution-focused sounding board for staff and managers seeking HR-related advice, on a variety of people matters and policy queries (e.g., annual leave, new starters, compensation and benefits). 

 

Operational HR 

  • Execute consistent HR administrative procedures, systems and practices to ensure an accurate and efficient HR function is provided to all employees. 

  • Manage the onboarding processes to include preparing job offers, conducting reference checks, DBS checks, eligibility to work in the UK, initiating the starter checklist and managing/facilitating company onboarding processes. 

  • Requesting and maintaining all new IT accounts and equipment request for new employees and ensuring old accounts are closed 

  • Responsible for the manual and virtual verification of Right of Work in the UK for new employees and requesting and reviewing criminal records checks (DBS) for new employee screening 

  • Administer the offboarding process including issuing of leavers letters, calculating outstanding annual leave, identifying loans and  running exit surveys. 

  • Maintain the existing HR system (Select HR) data entry and oversee employee records and the management of personal data, in line with GDPR regulations and other relevant policies.  

  • Ensure all relevant payroll and pension data is processed monthly, liaising with our Payroll Officer and (when required) outsourced Payroll provider to ensure it is completed accurately and on time. 

  • Support the wider HR Team with annual processes such as annual reviews, audits and pay reviews. 

  • Provide learning and Development support such as organising training, maintain training records, collating training attendance etc 

  • Providing administrative support for the onboarding of contractors and managing the contractors inbox. 

Systems, Data and Reporting 

  • Act as Select HR Super User and Learning Hub (skillcast) expert, supporting staff with queries, updating guidance and escalating queries to the Helpdesk where required. 

  • Support with the Procurement and Implementation of Human Resources Information System 

  • Take responsibility to produce several regular People reports as and when required such as  Headcount data .  

  • Collate/Log informal complaints to analyse trends. Produce reports and provide best fit solutions

​​Essential criteria​ 

  • Demonstrable experience of delivering a variety of human resource tasks in a busy (ideally hybrid) environment, ensuring deadlines are met while maintain quality and care. 

  • Experience applying and advising on HR policies and procedures 

  • Good attention to detail in carrying out tasks thoroughly and with accuracy, working with consistent high-quality and minimising mistakes 

  • Good understanding of employment law 

  • Curious, critical thinker and skilled in problem-solving with the ability to address issues/conflict with tact and diplomacy  

  • Skilled and adaptable communicator, comfortable with face to face, telephone and video communication and excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Highly organised and methodical approach to work, able to manage competing priorities, and a demanding and varied workload. 

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, in line with GDPR. 

  • A sound knowledge of safeguarding practises and procedures" 

  • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook.  

 

​​Desirable criteria​ 

  • CIPD qualified or studying towards a CIPD qualification. 

  • Experience in Change Management Initiatives 

  • Experience of using Select HR
