Job Description
Health Data Research UK Masters Scholarships
This application is for 2024/2025 intake only.
HDR UK is partnering with HDR UK is partnering with British Heart Foundation (BHF) to offer master’s degree funding and research opportunities for up to eight talented students.
The £10,000 scholarships are fully funded by HDR UK. Students will each carry out their own research project.
This invaluable experience of working in an important area of healthcare research can offer the insights, knowledge and the experience and qualifications to enter a field that offers lots of great career opportunities.
The projects will be focused on the BHF Data Science catalysts with Kidney Research UK and Diabetes UK, with potentials for stroke and asthma.
Scholars with relevant skills may be able to carry out their project in the BHF Data Science Centre. Applications are welcomed from students who have been accepted on relevant UK university master’s courses.
One of the several scholarships will be awarded to those who identify as a woman, or who are non-binary, in honour of Susannah Boddie, who was the lead health data scientist at 10 Downing Street.

This will provide you with invaluable experience of working in an important area of healthcare research and help you gain the insights, knowledge experience and qualifications you need to enter a field that offers lots of great career opportunities.
Who can apply?
No previous background in health data science is required but applicants will need:
A first degree at 2:1 or above in a quantitative subject (such as maths, physics or engineering)
A confirmed place for a health data science (or equivalent) master’s degree at a UK university
To be eligible for home fees
To demonstrate an interest in the relevant disease areas
Basic coding skills in R or Python.
Some previous experience in a life sciences project will be an advantage.
