Job Description
Purpose of the Role
To support the Editorial Director and Editor with administrative work and to ensure books run smoothly to publication.
Responsibility
Administrative work:
General administrative duties (rejection letters, unsolicited manuscripts, minuting meetings)
To liaise with authors and provide author care (author copies, sales information, schedules)
To liaise effectively with the art and the production departments to ensure team are meeting deadlines
To monitor schedules on cover reveals, contract announcements and NetGalley
To manage author contacts database
Editorial work
To co-ordinate editorial freelancers
To prepare manuscripts for ebook conversion and typesetting
To check page proofs and epubs
To manage schedules to publication
To manage metadata
Backlist management
To liaise with sales teams on promotional opportunities
Commissioning support
To conduct research into subject matters, authors or organisations as directed by commissioning editors
To provide Bookscan figures when required, to collate useful information that will assist with commissioning decisions
To read widely across the fiction genre and to bring to attention of the team interesting books or positioning from other publishers
To read fiction submissions when required
Experience
Administrative & organisational experience with a high level of computer literacy
Interest in digital publishing
Skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Have the ability to use own initiative
Effective multi-tasker and goodtime management skills
Effective communicator at all levels (both written and verbal comms)
The ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
Excellent command of English language and excellent writing skills
Experience using MS Word, Excel, Outlook
